[edit] Bands that regularly perform live
[edit] Clubs that have at least weekly salsa nights
Sangria, located in Royal Oak, has salsa night Wednesdays and Thursdays with salsa lessons from 9-10 pm. The bottom floor of Sangria is a tapas bar, the dancing occurs upstairs in the Sky Club. The wooden dance floor is good, but small, but the dancing extends onto the tile floor beyond. The music is good and mostly salsa. Always plenty of people to dance with here.
Firefly Club, located in Ann Arbor, has a live band, Los Gatos, every Thursday from 8-10:30 pm, salsa lessons at 7:15 pm. There is an $8 cover with or without the dance lesson. There is limited dance space here. This is probably not somewhere to go without a partner.
Salsa Fridays at The Harem Night Club, located in Detroit, has salsa night every Friday with an intermediate salsa class at 8 pm and a beginner salsa class at 9 pm. There's a $5 cover before 9:30 pm, $7 cover after. Awesome wooden dance floor.
Heidelberg, located in Ann Arbor, has latin night Fridays from 9:30 pm - 2 am with salsa lessons from 9:30-10:30 pm. There is an $8 cover with or without the dance lesson. The DJ plays mainly salsa, bachata, and cha cha until 11:30 pm, after which point it's mostly latin house. Good place to go with a mixed crowd of salsa and non-salsa dancers.
Papi O' Night Club, located in Ypsilanti, has latin night Saturdays from 9:30 pm - 2 am with free salsa lessons at 9:45 pm. There is no cover before 10 pm, $8 afterwards. They have a good dance floor and the DJ plays a mix of salsa, bachata, merengue, and latin house. Always plenty of people to dance with here. The club also has pool tables; a good place to go with a mixed crowd of salsa and non-salsa dancers.
Casa Real, located in Oxford, has latin night Saturdays from 9 pm - 2 am with free salsa lessons at 9 pm. This is also a Mexican restaurant.
[edit] Infrequent or Special Events
YA Salsa hosts a Sunday social each month that regularly draw between 200 and 400 dancers. The YA Salsa Socials are run by volunteers and their mission is:
"To create an environment in which salsa dancers of all levels and styles can thrive in the Detroit area."
The socials are from 6:00 - 10:00 PM and include beginner lessons for footwork and partnerwork. Every third month, they bring in well know instructors for workshops and performances. Generally they have DJs and play salsa and a few chachas. They have a large wood dance floor and provide food and beverages.
